I love the history part of your article. My mother had told me stories for so many years of the days when she would go to Saltair to dances with her "beaus" and she often said you could hear the waves under the floorboards. This was before the first fire, I believe.

She lived in a place called "The Salt Works" a community - nearby anyone?? for the families of the men who worked for The Morton Salt Company.

I think it's great that now pop/rock and other groups are selecting this venue for their concerts. Ole Saltair is having yet another incarnation!

I found an old postcard of Saltair in its heyday on ebay and had it framed for my mother and she loved it - must have brought back some really wonderful memories of not only good times but of the (envious, at least to me !!) "simpler" times of our lives.

Marianna
NY

I would never have guessed that the place had an odd smell! I just thought that the photo looked sort of mysterious and exotic. :)

This is one case where photography allows for a better representation than the real thing. The photo (unless you've found a way to make your work scratch-and-sniff) keeps the smell of Saltair out of the art. I love that area, but it just smells so bad.

Nice photo, and thanks for including some history too.

Interesting photo and history of Saltair. I am curious if you have any information on the miniature railway that once ran there?
Regards,
Susan Robinson
--
The Grand Scales Quarterly http://www.grandscales.com
7+ RAILROADER http://www.7plusrailroader.com
Robinson & Associates
P.O.
