On the Mountain

On the Mountain, originally uploaded by LeggNet.

It’s been nearly a month since I’ve posted a B&W capture of one of my daughters, so here’s a new one. I made this capture as we were climbing recently. She was patiently waiting for her turn on the rope and spontaneously looked up toward the camera as I shot this.

In addition to converting to black and white in post-processing, I added a small amount of lens blur everywhere but the face. I did this to further accentuate the sharpness and detail of the eyes. I also darkened the background area to minimize the distraction away from the subject.

Just a simple silhouette of a vollyball net against the setting sun.

Bolt and Hanger

Tie In, originally uploaded by LeggNet.

I like this minimalist capture made by my friend Aaron (who was quite impressive with my camera) so much that it is the current desktop background on my Mac. The beautiful green bokeh (out of focus background) combined with the sharp focus on the bolt and hanger attract me to this image. This photo was taken near the top of a 100 foot rock wall in Northern Utah.

Cottonwood Canyon

This recent capture was made in Big Cottonwood Canyon just outside of Salt Lake City. The striking shadows along with the jagged ridges create a dramatic lighting effect.

I spotted this garden wall recently while walking through a campground. I love the lusciousness of the surroundings along with the aged roughness of the wall. For some reason, the capture reminds me Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest from my childhood stories. I’m not sure why…..

I saw this interesting wall hanging on a visit to a vacant house for work. I really like the shadows created by the wire frame.

I captured this image of the sun silhouetting a water tower in Salt Lake City. The abundance of dissecting lines along with the gradient sky attracted me to capture this photograph.

Summer Solstice

Splashtown, originally uploaded by LeggNet.

Summer Solstice
Point on the ecliptic where the Sun is at its northernmost point above the celestial equator, occurring on or near June 21.

Today is the official first day of summer, so I opted for an appropriate photo to recognize this. This capture was made in the water feature at The Gateway, an outdoor mall in Salt Lake City. It’s a great place to gather on a warm summer day.

A Message?

I found the placement of these signs at a local bookstore rather ironic.

It was hot recently during a program at my children’s school. I spotted this boy in the crowd reclining on his dog. The dog appeared completely comfortable with the boy laying on him. It was cute.
